Fantastic! and Book Review

On Saturday, Boyfriend and I ventured out to Northern Virginia to meet my folks. Although they have met him a handful of times, my mom and dad (okay, mostly my mom) were itching to get to know him better. My mom's reasoning, "I don't want you moving in with a girlfriend beater." Umm, thanks for the concern mom, but I can assure you he's not.

The visit went very well, and my mom later called to tell me that she feels so much better about us moving in together. It sounds as though mom may think that he's the one as well. Thank god, because they last time we were all together everyone was drunk, rowdy and god knows what she was thinking (you may remember my father's birthday in March).

We all went out for Thai food for lunch and then shopped around the town center. Mom was feeling very generous and bought me this dress from Banana Republic (it's adorable on).

Afterwards, we came home and mom took a look at my sewing machine. Obviously, she didn't encounter a problem and attributed it to dumb blond daughter difficulty. Mom showed me what I was supposed to be doing, and we went to town making my first pillow case for the new apartment. Now, I'm obsessed with sewing. I'm going to make curtains and seat covers for the new place, but I want to do it now. Like five minutes ago now.

I walked around Calico Corners and fell in love. I touched all of the fabrics and imagined what it would be like to shop there. Jo-Ann is fine and all, but it's nothing compared to Calico Corners. I've been searching for weeks to find something perfect at Jo-Ann's without much luck. Today, I fell in love with 99% of the inventory. Unfortunately, I'm not my mom and I cannot afford to outfit my house in such a way. It's time to stop dreaming and head to the bargain bin.

In other news, I finished another book. This time, it was....

The Summer of Secrets by Martina Reilly

Seriously, go out and read this book! You may have a little trouble finding it, seeing as though it's actually an Irish import and was never sold in the USA. However, thank god for Amazon, because you can easily get your hands on a copy. I actually read a review for this book on another blog, and she also rated it five stars. It's going to cost you a little more than another used book may cost, but you will feel super cool laying by the pool with a book that it almost totally unavailable to your fellow American peers.

LOVE the dress! However, the shoes she's wearing it with? Got.to.go. Please, please, please tell me you won't be sporting those around town. Somehow I think you're smarter than that.

Lori----PS. John and I ran into Donna at the fish market. Jealous?

I finally bought myself a sewing machine but it's still in the box. I can't wait to get started on some new pillows! I have ideas all over the place. We'll turn girls night into craft night...how soccer mom is that!?

yay for the sewing machine, Brook! I hear ya about having many ideas. The problem is affording them.

FYI... JoAnn's has great pillow forms that are on sale quite frequently.

As for girls night.. We could have girls night and craft night. I know you were interested in a mosaic as well as sewing.....

If it makes you feel any better, my mom still defends her cautiousness at my quick engagement by saying "well ... Look at what happened to Lacey Peterson, and that crazy British guy in Vermont ..."

Um .. are you really comparing my husband to a MURDERER? Thanks for your concern, Mom, but I think I've got this one under control.

And then she says, well I don't think that NOW ...
