I'm not expert but...

The fiance and I have officially viewed and/or heard about most of the houses in our area that are in the young newlywed and not that rich price category.

Because I'm practically an expert now, I will give you a few words of advice.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT even look at a house that does not have pictures with the MLS listing.

They aren't any pictures cause it's a piece of crap.

I don't care if the listing says that it's a well loved home, with beautiful upgrades and french doors.

If there aren't any pictures, well loved is code for total piece of crap.

Trust me, beautiful in real estate terms means barely okay.

New or newer means within the last 30ish years.

Even though we're in tough economic times right now-- you cannot get a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house for under 300,000 this close to D.C.

There may be plenty on the market, but those are really only applicable to couples who don't need a roof, that don't mind that the toilet is missing and that enjoy the smell of dog piss.

My favorite is "country kitchen." We saw one house that looked like a circus. Every other room had a different color of carpet and the walls were painted bright red with white trim. Wow! Imagining the possibilities can get awfully tough after seeing 20 homes that don't fit the bill. Best of luck!
