We're supposed to leave for the beach in an hour. We're spending a long weekend there.
What do you know-- Snap got the runs for the first time in his life. All over my new carpets.
I took him to the vet and she thinks he'll be fine, but doesn't know for sure.
Now I'm not sure if we should stay or go.
Is the name appropriate or what?

I'm watching After the Final Rose right now.....
Chris Harrison is usually my friend, but tonight--- hot damn that outfit sucks.
Purple dress shirt, red silk tie and brown pinstriped suit. NO, NO, NO.
Apparently he's taking fashion advice from Ed!
I think that I need to cancel my Etsy membership.
I find far too many things on there that I must order immediately!
I still have not found shoes to wear to my bridal shower.
I can't even decide if I want yellow or gold. Of course everything I love is on the JCrew website and I refuse to spend more than 50 bucks on shoes. Shit.
Her book is fabulous.
I don't normally read diet books but I've heard good things about this one so I borrowed it from the library.
So far, I'm very impressed. It's not a diet, but it makes a lot of sense. I may need to purchase this one after I'm finished.
ETA: Sorry about the nipples. I didn't realize that this picture was so scandalous.

I had my hair trial on Friday and it was a great time. I have baby fine, super straight, and ridiculously silky (doesn't hold much well) hair so I was a little worried about what we'd end up with.
Although I'd love to have long, flowing curls on my wedding day, it's just not going to happen for me. However, I'm pretty thrilled with what we came up with! :)
This is what we came up with.. It's not the most flattering side shot, but you get the idea.
One of my bridesmaids was able to join me so she snapped all of the pictures and ensured that my hair looked great from every angle.
The hairpins are something that I purchased on Etsy to spice up my look just a bit. I'm also going to be wearing a veil for at least half the day.
What do you think? Should I use this style on the big day?

As requested, further fashion help info..........
I'm wearing THIS dress in navy blue (at least that's what I'm planning for now). It's relatively dressy, but my shower is going to be a noon luncheon at someone's home so I don't want to go overboard.
Anyways, I'm torn and I love the combo of Navy/Yellow, Navy/Red, and Navy/Gold.
I want something cute, but appropriate, and you know I'm going to need to stand out. =]
P.S. I wear a size 7.5 or 8 in shoes!
Help me find some
sandals for my bridal shower.
I'm open to wedge heels, I'm open to open toe pumps, I'm open to a low heel. I just need help.
I told you we've been busy.
When we moved in, our front yard was less than decent at best. If you look closely you can see the dead crappy tree blocking the bay window, a shabby roof (they replaced that of course), and a weird flower garden full of wood chips that took up half the yard. Honestly, I think there was a fern, but not a single flower in that garden. Our neighbors informed us that the previous owner covered half his lawn with wood chips to make the upkeep easier. To each their own, eh.
When we moved in, we were ready to spruce the place up. We immediately sawed down both of the dead trees in the front yard. We also removed all of the old wood chips (that took forever), the old cheap plastic border, and we got to work on our own border, some planting and some grass growing. =]
It's been two months and this is what we've got. The border looks good, considering we were redecorating on a major budget. We are both incredibly proud of our grass growing skills. Especially because the huge tree in our yard blocks almost all sun.
I'm also loving the flowers. For now we've got a lot of annuals in there, but there are some perennials towards the back and I hope they'll fill things in next spring!

The hair trial went fabulously, but you're going to have to wait for pictures. I need the fiance's help with uploading.
In the meantime, I will share a few new, fun things!
We happened to have a few bare walls in this place, so I did what every good girl should do. Why, I headed over to Etsy to pick up some vinyl letters.
This is what we've got going on over our bed. The frames with our initials are old, but the phrase is new. I like it.
And this is what I've added to the hallway. I'm loving that too. I cannot wait until I can buy a giant vinyl monogrammed C (new initial) for somewhere in our new place.
My engagement ring!
It's not new, but we ordered my wedding band made to match. My band will have five diamonds, all of which are the same size as my engagement ring side stones.
As you can see, I've been busy!

Just one of my pet peeves...
...People who go to happy hour, enjoy half off all of their appetizers (which they treat like dinner), drink practically free beer, and bitch out the waitress because she has not brought them a basket of bread.
John and I sat at a table next to that couple yesterday. Seriously, you're eating gourmet shrimp and crab for five bucks. Don't yell at the waitress because you want even more free food.

Okay, Downeast Basics (my go-to skirt store) just sent me an email.
They don't have skirt #3 left in stock so they canceled it from my order.
I'm super annoyed that they got my hopes up, allowed me to order it, only to dash my skirt dreams a few days later.
...but with good excuses....
I'm trying to enjoy what's left of this summer.
I'm one of those. Those that mourn the loss of summer (and the passage of time in general) before it's even over.
Instead, I'm trying to live it.
By live-- I mean relax, spend too much time in the sun, and a little too much time spent enjoying a beer with friends at 5pm.
Our wedding is in less than 3 months. I'm about ready to freak out. I've held up pretty well, but I'm getting more and more anxious as the days go by. Is this normal? I keep thinking that I'm forgetting to do something huge. I just don't know what.
John's car is about to die. We may trade in his junker/clunker whatever the stimulus plan is called for a new car. It's not in the budget, but the boy can't ride his bike to D.C. everyday.
We went to the jeweler and ordered our wedding bands! We're both very excited about that.
The fiance and I had our housewarming party on Saturday (we made cupcakes and cookie/brownies in case you were wondering) and we think that it was a success. We spent time with people we see often and those that we don't see often enough.

Unless you are new, you know that I love, love, love Downeast Basics.
I decided to check again recently and of course they've added new skirts to their collection.
AM I GOING TO LOOK IN THESE?
We should find out in approximately 7-10 business days.

What's not to love about a summer day?
Ugh, I am so mad at the Bachelorette.
Yes, I'm spoiling.
My beloved Reid was sent home. Instead, she kept a boy who wears booty shorts and who can't get it up.
I can understand why Ed's dad was crying during the episode. I'd cry too if my son wore shorts that short.

Oops, have I been MIA or what?
As a result, you're going to get a quick update from me tonight!
I spent a fabulous Friday off from work (we were furloughed). I made the best of a no work for no pay day at the pool and lounging on the couch. After the fiance made it home from work with pay, we met up with one of my closest friends for our usual wings/beer ritual. I am head over heels in love with Fridays.
The fiance and I spent our Saturday out on the town. We started off the day with lunch at our local hibachi joint and then hit up the grocery store, walmart, target, and Michaels. We came home to clean like crazy while blasting 80's music and cooking for Sunday.
We had a fabulous BBQ and hosted my mom, dad, sister, aunt, and cousins at our new place. I cooked WAY too much (I cook in two ways-- too much and way too much). We're going to be eating potato salad and pasta salad for days. I had so much fun with them and love visiting with my family.
If you've made it this far and you're into wedding stuff, please check out the post I made on DC Nearlyweds. I need some help with this newest dilemma. =]

Our tasting went SUPER well (and it fell on our 100 day mark).
The day started with a bit of a hiccup, a.k.a. I was lost in Dupont circle, crying my eyes out while driving-- and my half hour drive turned into a 1.5 hour drive. I was so late and so embarrassed, but they were beyond accommodating and assured me that I wasn't a complete jerk for showing up a little late.
As soon as we sat down in the room they poured me a glass of wine and we got down to business. We picked out linens and we ate a ridiculous amount of food (scallops, salads, sirloin, crab cakes, veggies to name a few). The food was incredible and I had a fabulous time tasting my options.
Seriously, I'm dreaming about their sirloins as we speak.
After the tasting, we toured the grounds one more time and may or may not have changed ballrooms (hey, now that we've got our color schemes down it's easier to make a decision).
John's catholic, so we can't get married outside, but we're going to take some of our pictures right there. It's a beautiful setting and it's only going to look better in October when the leaves are changing.
I love it, I love it, I love it!
Thursday, July 9, 2009
This is going to be quick, because I'm tired, but we've officially hit the 100 days mark!
In other news, we had our tasting today and the food was phenomenal. Expect a full report soon!

Today was my last day of work for the week!
I'm off tomorrow for my wedding tasting (YAY) and we're furloughed on Friday.
We've officially hit 101 days. In fact, we're 31 minutes away from 100 days.
I can't wait to tell you all about our tasting tomorrow.
Because it seems to blow some people away, I'll elaborate.
It's true, we have ten closets.. and it was one of the perks that helped us decide on this townhouse.
We have a GIANT walk in closet in our bedroom. Giant by town house means, not by an I live in a 4000 square foot house with a master suite means. Although I don't have exact measurements, I'd guess that it's about 7 ft x 4 ft. The pathetic part-- my clothes barely fit in there. We may actually turn this closet into a second bathroom in the future.
We also have a second closet in our bedroom, which I allow the fiance to use. =] It looks like a normal closet on the outside, but it's actually quite deep! BONUS.
In the spare bedroom we have another two closets, and a large linen closet in the hallway rounds out the upstairs.
On the main floor we're lucky enough to have a coat closet in the hallway and a pantry closet!
In the basement, we have three more utility closets.
The ridiculous part-- we're almost at capacity. I need to sift through my stuff. Pronto.
1. What kind of SOAP is in your bathtub right now?
I don't keep track of these types of things. I'm pretty sure it's caress and I'm pretty sure it's citrus-ish
2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator?
Oh man, my favorite. Unfortunately, No.
3. What would you change about your living room?
It depends on the day. On Mondays I love it, on Tuesdays I want to adopt a beach cottage feel. On all days that end in Y I wish that I could afford a 100&% pottery barn remodel (i.e. hundreds of dollars to spend on new stuff).
4. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty?
Clean-- we hate unloading
5. What is in your fridge?
Oh Snap. What isn't? Romaine, Red Onions, Carrots, Italian Bread, Eggs, Butter, Cheddar, Pepper jack, Mozzarella and Feta cheese, Juice, Pickles, Apples, Cherries, Assorted Condiments and Dressings.
6. White or wheat bread?
Wheat gives me a stomach ache (TMI?)
7. What is on top of your refrigerator?
A formal grill, a jar of sugar, a basket of dishtowels, and a citrus/sage candle.
8. What color or design is on your shower curtain?
Yellow stripes (only one shower... ahhhhhhh)
9. How many plants are in your home?
None that are live (the cats eat the crap out of them). I have planted several plants outside-- deep purple hydrangea, impatiens, and russian sage.
10. Is your bed made right now?
Doubtful. I try, but it's hard because I hate my sheets. I'm DYING to get the new ones on my registry. It's probably my most wanted gift.
11. Comet or Soft Scrub?
Soft Scrub, just like my mama
12. Is your closet organized?
Yes. Everything is color coordinated and separated according to sleeve length and style.
13. Can you describe your flashlight?
I wish I had a flashlight. I could have used that last weekend.
14. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home?
My mother thinks plastic is tacky. She's ruined me.
15. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now?
16. If you have a garage, is it cluttered?
Please, like I could afford a garage. Do you think I'm rich or something?
17. Curtains or blinds?
18. How many pillows do you sleep with?
We have four, I use 2.
19. Do you sleep with any lights on at night?
20. How often do you vacuum?
Fancy that, I just did. About 2x a week.
21. Standard toothbrush or electric?
Standard. I can't afford electric.
22. What color is your toothbrush?
23. Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch?
At the front door we have a welcome mat at the back door we have a mat that says "go away."
24. What is in your oven right now?
Probably empty cookie sheets. It drives John nuts.
25. Is there anything under your bed?
NO, we have ten closets at this place and only two people.
26. Chore you hate doing the most?
Bathrooms and folding laundry.
27. What retro items are in your home?
Me. I'm almost 28.
28. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office?
We have a room in the basement that could be an office and a second bedroom that could be an office. We have yet to decide.
29. How many mirrors are in your home?
2 in the bathrooms, 1 in the foyer, 3 as decor in the living room.
30. Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home?
Does 200 bucks count as emergency money?
31. What color are your walls?
Depends on the room-- we're sporting tan, ivory, green, blue, & yellow.
32. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home?
My fiance is the son of a cop. I don't even want to know.
33. What does your home smell like right now?
Pineapple and crab legs.
34. Favorite candle scent?
Lemon/Lime, Citrus, Sage, Ginger, or Peach
35. What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now?
36. What color is your favorite Bible?
Invisible. I should get one. I keep telling John that we need to be more religious.
37. Ever been on your roof?
38. Do you own a stereo?
39. How many TVs do you have?
4 but we only have two plugged in. I'm trying to get John to throw the tubes away.
40. How many house phones?
41. Do you have a housekeeper?
42. What style do you decorate in?
It totally depends on the room-- we're design schizo. Shabby Chic in the dining room/kitchen, Normal in the living room, Beachy in the bedrooms.
43. Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints?
I like them both. Perhaps a solid couch and a printed chair.
44. Is there a smoke detector in your home?
45. In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you only could make one quick trip?
John and two kittens

How important is a DO NOT play and a PLEASE PLAY list for your DJ?
I don't want to make more work for myself if it's unnecessary, but did you find it to be a good use of time?
1. I gave a presentation on Toxic Anger at work today. In fact, I presented twice at a workshop for all of the guidance counselors and school psychologists in the county. Not only did the presentation go super well, my boss observed me so I got that over and done with until next year. Phew & success. Go me.
2. Although I couldn't handle 45 mins today, my gym buddy Alli and I managed to put in 35 minutes of hard core working out today.
3. My dinner-- Crab legs, Romaine, red onion and feta, and seasoned french fries. Phenomenal.
I hope your day was as good as mine!
A few weeks ago, Life with LuLu and Pete hosted a super fun monogram swap.
Although I have always loved monogrammed items, the fact that I'm soon to be wed, further motivated me to join this swap (hello, new name).
LuLu paired me up with Janine from Pretty Personal Gifts
I was super excited to receive my package and inside she included two super cute gifts.
The hand towel could not be anymore perfect. Janine must have done her research because the towel matches our new kitchen/dining room remodel perfectly. Even more exciting, the crab-- it's the perfect touch. The only problem with the gift is that I have to wait until after the wedding to use it (C will be my new initial).
She also included a cute little bikini bag to take on my honeymoon! How thoughtful is she?
Thanks again for all of the gifts, Janine and thanks to LuLu for hosting this swap.

Oh Wes, you are a real wiener.
I must admit that I'm totally rooting for Reid now. The fiance came upstairs and caught me smiling like a school girl at him (through the TV of course). I believe his correct words were, "what in the world are you smiling about?"
Reid, duh. Second only to my fiance himself.
I think it helps that Reid is neurotic. He reminds me a bit of myself.
I haven't worked a Monday in weeks and it is F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S
Relaxing day with lotsa reading, lotsa sun and 45 minutes on the elliptical (I'm hardcore).

I love the Fourth of July! Growing up, it was always one of my favorite holidays. My parents always went all out, we always had parties and I always ate lobster. What's not to love about a holiday spent in the sun, in a bathing suit, while eating a ridiculous amount of cheeseburgers.
Granted this year was far more low key (and I've decided that I must have a party next year since the only parties we're invited to are the ones that we have ourselves =]), we had a great time.
We relaxed like I've never relaxed before. We spent Friday at the pool with my friend Alli and her husband. At around 6pm, we decided that we were sick of the pool and threw together an impromptu BBQ at my place. I tried my luck and texted Lori from my mid-mid life crisis and she and her husband were able to come by to join us for some food.
In fact, our convo went something like this:
Ashley: We're grilling and drinking beers in our sweats so hurry and come over.
Lori: Seriously, that sounds ahhhhhhhhmazing
On Saturday our pool had a big BBQ and we spent approximately 7 hours lounging around the pool (don't worry, I wear SPF). After the pool, we went to Alli's house for an impromptu BBQ. I literally ate a cheeseburger for every meal this weekend. Although I didn't get the lobster that I was accustomed too throughout my childhood, you know that I at least enjoyed some crab legs.
Considering the fact that we had no plans at the start of the weekend, things turned out pretty well and I had a fabulous holiday. I hope you did too!
(All of the above also count for my grace in small things 45, 46 & 47- I think I can bend the rules when the whole weekend was fabulous)

I'm thankful for....
Playing tennis! I love the cute outfits and the exercise.
Happy Hour. Perfect for the socialite on a budget.
Lemongrass mojitos. To die for.
Started reading a new book (Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah)
No, NO, no!
Get your head out of the gutter. I am not having kids anytime in the near future (I mean, I need to wait at least a year)...
However, I'd fit right in with the other country club moms at my pool.
Case in point:
- I just said Ciao Dahhhhhling to my sister. Oops.
- I am running off to tennis as soon as I finish this post.
- I am following tennis with happy hour.
- At happy hour I need to devise a plan about how to stake out all of the good chaise lounges on the fourth of July.

The fiance bought it and I was skeptical. All in all, it tasted very authentic and you could smell the ginger while it was cooking. A Great, easy, I don't want to cook stand by.
Don't tell General Mills, but I bet it would be great with ground chicken too.
Have you tried it and did you like it as much as we did?
- Working out with friends makes an hour on the elliptical fly by!
- Lots of cuddling
