The Glamorous Life of a School Psych

Sometimes, I wonder why I became a school psychologist.

I spend most of my days giving people bad news--

- your child is autistic
- your child is mentally retarded
- your child is emotionally disturbed
- your child has ADHD
- your child has a learning disability
- your child does not qualify for special education

You would think that the last one would be a good thing, but even that is bad news to most parents. Your kid does not qualify= sorry your kid is failing school, we just can't figure out why OR your kid isn't bright enough to be learning disabled or impaired enough to be mentally retarded.

Every once in awhile this job wears me out.

I can't imagine having to be the one to tell parents such awful news. I thought I had it bad when I have to tell a parent that their LD child is not progressing the way they were hoping. It's so sad...
