Staunton?

Several of you mentioned that Staunton, VA is a great place to visit.

My husband and I have booked a weekend there for our March 2010 trip . What do you recommend, what do we have to see, and what should we do?

Yay!!! We just took trip #2 to Stauton for Valentine's Day. It is such a cute little town! You will love it :) Zynodoah has really delicious food but is kind of trendy. Shenandoah Pizza is SO YUMMY (order breadsticks!!) and definitely be sure to hop on the trolley for an easy tour of the town. It is definitely a"foodie" town with lots of cute little restaurants and coffee shops. We loved Darjeeling cafe too...awesome selection of tea and cute little snack/lunch items. If you are staying at the Stonewall Jackson, everything is an easy walk away.

If you feel like getting out of the town for a short day trip there are tons of wineries around. You could also check out Grand Caverns (about a 20 minute drive) which is a HUGE awesome cave. The tour is about 1 hour and costs about $15 a person. The cavern is really neat because it has been open for public tours since the early 1800s. There are signatures on the walls from Civil War soldiers!
Finally, be sure to check out the glass shop to watch a glass blowing demonstration or go see a play in the Shakespeare theater!
Whew! I hope you have a good time and I can't wait to hear how you like it!!!

The American Shakespeare Center is much more than "rural Virginia productions." It's one of the most well-respected theatres in America. It's the reason why Staunton gets so many out-of-state and out-of-country visitors. It's also the most fun you'll ever have at a Shakespeare performance... ever!

Carrie mentioned Darjeeling Café. That's a very cool place for lunch and/or drinks. Live music every weekend there.
