My Thoughts on The Bachelorette, Episode 2

First off, I'm loving the blue and green decor in the mansion. My house happens to be decorated in blue and green and I believe that I've lived here longer than the bachelorette has been on TV. Apparently, my decorating style rules.

Frank gets the first one on one date. He's cute, but I prefer him without the glasses. Ali shows up in her yellow shirt and purple converses because they are going to do "funny, silly things today." Obvi.

Ali continues to show us that she has total disregard for hair accessories.

Some of these guys are seriously NOT cute. It's weird.

This guy in particular sucks a lot. He's practically a chick if I'm being honest.

AND What is with this guy? Is it just me- but I can't understand what he is saying. He reminds me of Beavis-- or maybe it's Butthead.

These guys have a lot of drama. Craig and the weatherman are having a fight. I don't like either. Craig's a chick and the weatherman dresses like one. He has yet to wear something that isn't purple, pink or white leather.

The weatherman is so socially awkward. If he doesn't go home I'm going to build a drinking game around him-- take a shot everytime he says, "do you really want to know?"

I feel that he may go home- he spends all his time talking about Craig and no time asking about her.

There are a few diamonds in the rough, but they are few and far between.

So who stays?
Chris L
Justin the Wrestler
John C
Craig R
Chris N
Jonathan the Weatherman

That means that three guys got the ax. Two of them were relatively cute, but didn't get any airtime. Tyler had a strange growth on his forehead but I probably would have kept him over the weatherman.

I'd say that my personal favorites are Roberto, Chris L. and Kirk.

What do you think?

Boo to Dancing with the Stars

For some strange reason I decided to tune in this season. I've never watched the show before and I'm not sure why I decided to give it a try this time around.

I gotta say, I am not impressed.

Isn't the whole point of the show to have regular people (non dancers) take a shot at dancing and to measure improvement.?

Nicole is a burlesque dancer. I mean she's practically a stripper. Of course she's going to lead in the competition. Personally, I don't like her attitude. She sucks.

If she doesn't win, the professional ice DANCER will take the crown. The man is an Olympic gold medalist in ice DANCING. That is cheating.

Ten on Tuesday (32)

1. What is your favorite piece of furniture in your house? I have champagne taste on a beer budget. Unfortunately, I am not rich and I didn't marry a rich husband so we decorate in a Pottery Barn wannabe style. I love my white couches, I love my blue and green pillows, I love my beachy curtains, and I love our king sized bed. Hopefully someday we have more money and can buy furniture at stores other than Ikea, Value City or Target.
2. If it was raining so hard on a Saturday that you couldn’t leave your house, what would you spend the day doing? I'd sleep in, cook a lovely meal, cuddle with the kitties, snuggle with the husband, and watch a movie or read.
3. What was your favorite candy as a child? God, I love candy. My favorites as a child were (and still are) twizzlers, sour patch kids, swedish fish, gummy bears, and milk duds.
4. Did you get an allowance? What was it based on? What did you do with it? On occassion, but not regularly.
5. Do you have a favorite Etsy store? I like Etsy, but I'm not partial to anyone in particular.
6. Do you prefer time with family or time with friends? I like spending time with both friends and family. Lately, we've been spending a lot more time with family though. It wasn't a conscious decision, we just aren't invited out much by friends. =)
7. Looney Tunes, Tiny Toons, or Animaniacs? I was more of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle girl.
8. Best daytime talk show: Oprah, Ellen, The Doctors, Tyra (ha!), Dr. Oz, or Dr. Phil? I find them all very annoying.
9. Would you rather have the power of invisibility or the ability to fly? Ooh, both would be great, but flying would be more fun.
10. Name 1 thing you love about being an adult? Playing house.

I'm Better than Grey's Anatomy

No, you aren't watching ER or Greys, this is my life.

In case you missed the first installment which included a lot of Ear, Nose, and Throat tests, Audiologist tests, an ENG, a potential brain tumor (that wasn't) and an MRI that caused a scary allergic reaction, than feel free to catch up HERE

Well, one month after my MRI, I finally got to talk to my ENT about my results (b/c duh, why would they call me?) No brain tumor (hells to the yes), but I was not in the clear either. He asked me if I'd ever had numbness , tingling in my limbs, etc.

I'm no fool, and I knew where he was going. I would say that one of my greatest life fears is developing multiple sclerosis. My poor grandmother had it for all of her adult life and she was miserable. She couldn't drive, she was in a wheel chair, she couldn't see, she couldn't do much of anything. She also died a very early death as a result of complications of MS. MS is never far from my mind.

He told me that there wasn't any reason to be alarmed, but that my MRI indicated that I had some lesions on my brain that could be indicative of MS or Lymes Disease (hence the blood test). He waited a month to tell me because he didn't think that it was that, but he had to be certain.

I called the radiologist to get an actual report about what was going on. Apparently, the radiologist found three lesions that are bilaterally located in my frontal lobe, which are non specific. They could be a myriad of things including MS, Lymes, Stroke, Small blood vessel disease etc.

Cue freaking the F out.

I was able to take the Lymes test right away. The Lymes disease test came out negative. One small victory.

I was finally able to get into the neurologist on Monday. I will have you know that I've never been more nervous in my life. My heart was beating a mile a minute, my leg was shaking and they left me in the waiting room for an hour.

He asked me a lot of questions, did a short exam where he hit me with that hammer thing a few times and reviewed the MRI. I wish I had a tape recorder so that I could remember exactly what he said, but he sounded positive. He said that the lesions (he found 4 to the radiologist's 3) were detected before the contrast fluid was administered. He said that after the contrast fluid was administered, the lesions were undetectable, which doesn't follow along with the pathology of MS (this is when I started smiling again). He also told me that he doesn't think that it's Lymes or any of the other disorders that were listed above either.

The plan of action- more blood draws (b12 deficiencies can cause these lesions as well) and a follow up MRI in 6 months to see if anything changes. I also have strict orders to contact him if I have any numbness, weakness, loss of vision or loss of speech.

In the meantime, I'm celebrating.

She's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

It's time for my main man Chris Harrison to return to prime time TV.

This season, it's the Bachelorette and it's Ali. To be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of her last season but she'll probably grow on me. I didn't like Jillian either, but I watched her whole season (although I'm still pissy that she picked shorty shorts).

Here's Ali, trying on clothes and running through town with a soccer ball. That chick has some scraggly hair and cries a ton.

Frank- He's cute, except I counsel an emotionally disturbed child with those same glasses. I like his anchor shirt though. I like nautical men.

Jay- the lawyer from Rhode Island- he's boring and has girly hair.

Craig from Canada- goes to clubs and is a metro. He's out.

Kyle from Colorado- Jesse reincarnated.

Justin- Rated R- Gay pretending to be straight.

Phil- he's the one who's brother passed away and he's a cutie. I like him.

Jonathan the weatherman- He could be gay as well.

Where did they find these guys? Woof. I'm done reviewing them. It's too soon to pick favorites.

Why does Chris Harrison always wear skinny ties nowadays? I hate it.

Ali's weave is worse than Vienna's last season. Yikes.

The introductions are going well.. but they seem a little fake.

Here comes the secret box. It's time to be a little bitch and hate on someone else. I hate that they do this now, because I feel as though the man voted most annoying always wins the first date.

Roberto gets the first impression rose. Obviously, I saw that coming and I haven't even read the spoilers (yet).

Who is this giant scary dude giving Chris the roses? He must be new this season.

The wrestler gets the crappiest contestant award. He's not my type so I'd send his ass packing, but she keeps him. I think that ABC must pay her ten dollars a day to keep him around for the drama. That's why I hate that box-- the loser never goes home.

So who stays and who goes?

Jesse- he's cute, wearing purple, gave her the homemade heart necklace.
Ty- he's cute, older, they clicked during their alone time.
Craig R- the yellow converse guy- that won him points.
Tyler V- Don't remember him.
Frank- Emotionally Disturbed glasses, but cute and fun.
Steve- I don't remember him.
Chris L- I like him. He's sweet and cute.
Kirk- Nice guy
John C- Gay in a gay man's outfit.
Chris N- Not a fan- teal tie? Um, no.
Chris H- I don't remember him.
Hunter- He kinda looks like a hobbit if we're being honest.
Craig M- ABC paid her for that one.
Jonathan- He cannot be straight.
Kasey- He's sweet, but has a super strange voice.

I'm shocked about some of the guys that she sent home--especially since they monopolized the first half hour of the show.

Medical Professionals

What is it with some (not you reading, I love you) medical professionals?

A few Fridays ago I went to get some blood drawn (I'll tell you about it later). My primary care physician has a lab, which is super convenient but scary. The lab is a scary place, with one chair and a lot of blood and vials.

I warned the nurse that I'm a fainter and asked if I could go somewhere where I could lie down while she was taking my blood. I told her that I only faint if I see the blood in the vial and joked about one lady who left it sitting on the counter. I told her that If I don't see it, I'm totally fine. Shots don't scare me at all. Just hide it in your pocket.

Wouldn't you know that the dumb chick left my vial of blood sitting on the counter.

Hello?!?!?! Aren't listening skills part of nursing school?

Random Tidbits

- Every Thursday, my school has the children read the announcements over the loudspeaker.  They kids often wish us a thrilling or thankful Thursday.  Yesterday, they wished us a "TERRIFYING" Thursday.  Someone needs to review their notes before they start speaking.
- Why is being obsessive such a bad quality?  I would give anything to become just a little bit more obsessive about dieting or working out.  My waistline would love a little obsessiveness.
- What's the opposite of obsessive? I'm sure my picture is right there in the dictionary.
- Does anyone know how to insert a little obsessiveness into my life?
- I love playing kickball again!  We've played for four years and I wasn't feeling it anymore towards the end.  The husband convinced me to keep playing, we switched leagues this year, met some new people, and I'm back to having a blast.  Sometimes a change can reignite something within you.  Sidenote: The fact that I can drink beer while playing in this new league, may help with that.
- I almost forgot what the sun looked like.  Thank god it's back out in full effect.
- Hellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllo, Friday!

What I'm Reading

I hated the last book that I read, so I'm trying again with some new stuff...

First up, a Mindful Eating book. Will it help? Who knows, but it probably can't hurt.

And for a little mindless entertainment we have this little number. Have you read it?

I'll be sure to let you know how it goes!

Spencer is Really a Rat

I really hope that The Hills is fake-- otherwise, Spencer needs to be kicked in the balls (hard).

And yes, I'm the only 28 year old in America that still watches The Hills.

So sue me!

We have a WINNER!

Shaina from Post Smith has won herself a Pop Chips variety pack!

Even if you didn't win, run to your grocery store and check them out-- they taste great!

What I'm Reading

I just finished reading Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner. I'll admit that i'm a total chick lit fan, but this book missed the mark.

The story was so pathetic and so unrealistic that I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the passing of each chapter.

Jordan, the police chief launched an investigation that spanned the entire Eastern seaboard at the result of a bloody belt?

The characters could have been likeable, and at times I was really intrigued by them, but moments later the author changed gears and went off the deep end.

I'm not sure that I'd recommend this one. Have you read it?

I'm alive

.. but I'm so bitter about the fact that Sandra won Survivor twice....
.... and she did nothing worthy of winning either time.
My husband and I were totally on team Russell.  We were both stunned that not one single person voted for him.  Jealous much?
In other news, don't forget to sign up for the POPCHIPS giveaway! I'll pick a winner tomorrow!

I LOVE my PopCHIPS (Giveaway)!

Do you remember when I mentioned how much I love Popchips?

If not, I'm more than happy to reiterate! They taste like chips (minus the grease) and they are only two weight watchers points per serving.

Luckily for me (and you- you'll see in a few) someone from Popchips noticed my blog and offered to send me a sample pack in exchange for my kind words and review.

Hello free samples! I was lucky enough to find the salt and vinegar flavor in my local Safeway, but I had not been able to find any of the other flavors locally.

Well this packet included all six flavors-- BBQ, Salt and Pepper, Salt and Vinegar, Sour Cream and Onion, Plain Potato, and Cheddar.

My favorites are the salt and vinegar and the cheddar flavors, but I don't discriminate, I love them all and promptly ordered an entire case off of Amazon!

Thankfully, the Popchips marketing lady is super sweet and agreed to offer another case to my readers upon my request. If you're interested in trying your own sampler pack just leave me a comment about your favorite healthy snack and I'll pick a winner next Tuesday evening at 8pm! I'll even give my followers an extra entry, so let me know if you follow in your comment.

Enjoy and best of luck! I hope you love these as much as I do!

Ten on Tuesday (30)

This week, I submitted the questions, so of course I had to play along!
1.  What was your high school superlative (if you didn't have one- what would it have been)?  My high school superlative was--- "Best Smile" and "Couple Most Likely to get Married" (we didn't, thankfully =).  In field hockey, we also had superlatives- mine was "shortest kilt" (don't worry, I always wore spandex underneath) and "most jewelry."
2.  What sports did you play in high school? I played field hockey in the fall (center half/midfield), lacrosse in the spring (I wasn't great), and I was a cheerleader for basketball in the winter.  As an adult, I take tennis lessons.  Do you see the theme? I like sports with skirts.
3.  What was the best part about your wedding? My wedding was quite simply the best day of my life.  If I had to pick my favorite part, it would be our reception (I was nervous at the ceremony- church makes me nervous- although our first kiss was fun).  The food was phenomenal and our D.J. was off the hook amazing.  We had the most fantastic party!
4. It's your last meal-- what Appetizer, Soup, Salad, Entree and Dessert would you choose?  Food, my favorite subject!
Appetizer- A Maryland style crab cake!
Soup- Crab and corn chowder or broccoli cheese soup
Salad- Baby spinach, strawberries, red onion and feta
Entree- Crab legs and tenderloin with a baked potato and grilled corn on the cob.
Dessert- Strawberry shortcake (cool whip and angel food cake)

5.  What song is your guilty pleasure? I love 90's hip hop- we're talking Next- Too Close, Back that Ass up and Big Pun. =) If you look at me you'd never guess!
6.  What is your favorite professional sports team, and why do you like them? The Pittsburgh Steelers.  I went to high school in Pittsburgh and fell in love with the culture that is the Steelers.  I've seen almost every single game, I own the DVD's and most of my athletic wear has their name all over it.  Football season is an emotional rollercoaster-- when they win I have a natural high, but I've been known to cry when they lose.
7.  What is your favorite reality show and why do you like it? I love trashy reality shows.  My favorites are the Bachelor, all of the Real Housewives of various cities, and Survivor!  I like them because they are mindless entertainment!
8. How would you classify your home decorating style (modern, classic, french country)? I think I'm a little bit traditional, a little bit french country, and a little bit cottage.  I know what I don't like more than what I like-- and I'm not a fan of modern, personally.
9. Pizza- deep dish or thin crust? White sauce or red sauce? What toppings?  I love thin crust or regular crust pizza.  Red sauce for sure.  I love my pizza with green peppers, onions, and mushrooms.
10.  Favorite weekend getaway within a two hour driving radius? The Eastern Shore-- either Bethany Beach or Rehobeth Beach.  In case you haven't noticed, I'm a total fan of summer, seafood, and the beach.

I love my Ma!

I'm always a day late, but this time I have an excuse (my crappy computer).

Besides, my MA knows that I love her!

Yesterday, the hubs and I hosted a little Mother's Day BBQ for our mothers and invited all of our siblings. We love to entertain and as always, I cooked way too much.

Is there anything better than time with family? I think not!

Isn't my ma lovely? I think so!

Here's a more recent picture of us-- taken at Easter (minus heavy make up and fake lashes). People tend to think that we look like twins. I can sort of see it in this picture.

And this year, I can add another "mom" to the list. Thanks to my mother-in-law, I have one handsome husband (seriously, isn't he adorable?) and she's pretty great too!

Garbage Review!

Do you know how hard it is to find a great trash can? Sounds weird, but it's so true. They are either too small, too large, too plastic, or too cheap looking. My husband and I have been searching for a good can for at least a year now. I'm ashamed to admit that more than one has been returned back to the store that it came from because it simply stopped working after a week or two. Recently, CSN contacted me to ask if I'd be interested in reviewing a product for them. Interested? Of course I am! The possibilities are endless and CSN has so much to choose from. I looked at TV Stands, Cookware, and so much more. In the end, I settled on a super cool, infared garbage can!

I'll be sure to tell you about my experience with it after I try it out for awhile! Have you ever tried an infared trash can? Or what about CSN? Dish please!

Woe is Monday

My computer is STILL out of commission. Something about a bad hard drive (a rotten one). Yuck.

My husband's computer is at least 3 years old, so you can imagine how fun it is to use (which is why I have not used it). I hope to be back soon, with a totally fixed computer. Until then, I'm waiting on the IT people at work to learn how to move like there's a fire under their asses.

Apparently, "I'm a psychologist and all of my work scoring programs and ALL of my psych reports and files are on that computer" just isn't inspiring enough to them.

Ten on Tuesday (29)

1. Do you prefer markers, crayons, or colored pencils?
Markers. The skinny ones. Color pencils are cool too as long as they are very sharp.

2. As a child, how did your parents celebrate your birthday? (Parties, cake, you pick the dinner, etc.)
There wasn't any particular celebration. We almost always got to pick what we wanted for dinner. Sometimes we went out, sometimes mom cooked, and sometimes we had parties.

3. How do you feel about leggings?
I thank god every day that leggings are back in style. I always cover my bits and pieces but they look fantastic under dresses in the winter.

4. How do you prefer to follow directions? With a map? Words?
I am surprisingly good at directions. I have an uncanny sense of direction and if I've been somewhere once, I'll remember it every time.

5. What do you eat for snack?
What don't I eat for snack? If I'm being good it's pop chips, rice cakes, strawberries, watermelon, grapes, oranges, light string cheese. If I'm living life the way I prefer it's twizzlers, pretzels, swedish fish, sour patch kids etc.

6. Have you ever ordered anything from an infomercial or bought any As Seen on TV products?
No, but I've been tempted. That ab circle looks so cool.

7. What’s your favorite thing about summer?
The pool, BBQ, patio time, tan skin, no kids at school and cold beers.

8. Do you have a tattoo? What and where is it?
No. I'm not a fan personally.

9. Are you good at journaling?
Not on paper. I try to do something well, but usually run out of steam after a month or two. I need some passion so that I can follow through with things better.

10. What’s your favorite way to eat a hamburger?
With cheese, ketchup, pickles and onions

Our Travels

In January we (mostly me) made a resolution to live more, see more.

We want to have kids eventually, and before we do that I want to make sure that we live more, see more.

In February we spent a very romantic weekend in Solomons Island, Maryland

In March, we spent a rainy but relaxing weekend in Staunton, Virginia, where we ate and drank very well.

In April, I ditched the husband and went with New York City for the weekend with my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law.

We celebrated May with a trip to Williamsburg and Norfolk, Virginia this past weekend. We had a fantastic time at Busch Gardens and rode all of the roller coasters more than once. In Norfolk, we were able to visit with my brother and explore the town with a true local.

I'm excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for us

So far we have...

-Connecticut in June for a wedding
-Nothing YET in July (any suggestions)? I'm thinking we may need to do a weekend in Richmond or Philly.
-The Eastern Shore in August
-I'm hoping to head to Pittsburgh for a Steelers game in September or November (we were engaged there, right before a game)
- One year anniversary-moon cruise in October
- Decembers open so far (any suggestions)?

My Eats 5.3

Remember how I told you that I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack?

We my lap top is on the fritz today. My work lap top. All of a sudden the screen went blank and it won't go past the start up page that says enter in safe mode (it's not entering). My husband mentioned something about a blue screen of hell. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm scared.

Have I mentioned that this lap top is approximately 4 months old?

Anyways, I'm on the husband's computer, but he doesn't share well with others when it comes to computers (and I don't blame him). I can't promise that I will report in every day this week.

In other news, it's TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK, which is otherwise known as, Sh*t- your diet is screwed week, so I'm not expecting a huge loss this week.

For today--

The usual cereal- 3 points

Lunch- I've been craving Italian- 7 points

I love Safeway and I love their meals. They even have the weight watchers points right on the box. This one was higher than usual, but I needed some Italian food in my life.

Apples- 0 points
Strawberries- 1 point
Cheddar Pop Chips- 2 points
Orange- 1 point

Dinner- Some pasta primavera dish that I whipped up...
Pasta- 4 points (I had a lot)
Sauce- 1 point
Frozen Veggies- 0 points
2 tbsp parmesan- 1 point

Mistake of the day:
Corn Muffin top at the Teacher Appreciate breakfast- probably 4 points? Ugh.

Monday, Monday

Am I the only one that finds this Monday morning to be draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaging?
I need a nap.
Going to school/work in the rain is a real pain in the hiney.

Missing In Action

I know, I know-- I've been flaking recently.

I haven't posted my food diary for almost a week.

That being said, I have been SUPER busy at work, but it's no excuse.

In my opinion, being busy isn't a good enough reason to avoid taking care of my body, to avoid taking care of my relationships, my sanity, and/or my time with my friends.

I never want to become someone who always uses the excuse, "I've been busy."

The whole point of life is to have fun and this week reminded me of that. I'll be back soon.
