Summer Reading: Book 8

At a New England boarding school, a sex scandal is about to break. Even more shocking than the sexual acts themselves is the fact that they were caught on videotape.

A Pandora's box of revelations, the tape triggers a chorus of voices--those of the men, women, teenagers, and parents involved in the scandal--that details the ways in which lives can be derailed or destroyed in one foolish moment.

Writing with a pace and intensity surpassing even her own greatest work, Anita Shreve delivers in TESTIMONY a gripping emotional drama with the impact of a thriller. No one more compellingly explores the dark impulses that sway the lives of seeming innocents, the needs and fears that drive ordinary men and women into intolerable dilemmas, and the ways in which our best intentions can lead to our worst transgressions.

I love Anita Shreve, so when I found this book laying around the "give a book, take a book" table at work I picked it up. In case you're wondering or want to read more, Fortune's Rocks and Eden Close are some of my favorite books that she's written.

This book was pretty good as well. It opened with a pretty traumatizing and graphic underage sex scene, but the rest of the book was much less graphic (thankfully). I enjoyed that she wrote the book from several different perspectives, but I did find myself disliking the headmaster. That being said, it was a fast, easy, but entertaining read.

Have you read it? What did you think?

I love Anita Shreve, too! I haven't read this one yet...I found a couple of her older novels at our church's booksale earlier this summer. (Oh, and I am new...I tried to leave a comment on that post a few days ago and my laptop kept getting frozen...sorry!).
