January Goals Update

Can you believe that it's MID JANUARY?!?!? Seriously, people!
 
Here's an update on my goals so far this month.....
 
Goal 1.Menu plan every day in January, at least one week in advance.
 
Yes, so far so good! I am doing my menu planning on Saturday/Sunday and planning it for the rest of the week.  I used to plan in two week increments and would like to get back to that, but this works for now.

Goal 2. Use our cash envelopes. I also stopped doing this during our busy November. Prior to November we would withdraw a set amount of cash to pay for all groceries and entertainment all month. Once the cash ran out, we ate from the pantry and stayed in. This really helped keep our spending in check-- something that we should have paid better attention to in November/December.
 
So far so good on this one too.  We're under budget in all areas so far!

Goal 3. I am going to try the no shopping thing again-- I may NOT buy any clothing unless I use a gift card or purchase shoes. I really need new flats and new wedge shoes. Those will be allowed. =)
 
Oh, I've already failed this one (again).  There was a sale at Target and a skirt that was calling my name.  Did I mention that all of Ann Taylor Loft is 40% off weekend?

Goal 4. Loosely follow this work out. Seriously, this man is amazing.  I will go to the gym for cardio 3x per week in January and I will strength train 3x per week as well.
 
Like I said, I enjoy working out and don't have a huge social life (wanna be friends?), so it hasn't been too hard for me. So far I've been doing cardio Monday, Wednesday, Friday and strength training Tues, Thursday, Sunday.  I rest (ahem, drink heavily) on Saturday. Sometimes, I do cardio on the weight training days as well but it's totally informal.  For example, I own a step at home so while my husband and I watch TV I'll walk up and down on my step for 15-30 minutes (while barefoot and in my PJs) but I think it counts because I get out of breath and I sweat. I've done that two nights this week.  Now, lets hope I can drop a few pounds.

Goal 5. This one may kill my husband but no dining out for the entire month of January unless someone else is treating us (or if already planned and on our agenda- one occasion). We are really considering a baby so we're gonna see how much we can realistically save in one month.
Amazingly, we've being doing good in this area as well.  Last Saturday, I had a girls day and went to PFChangs with my friends.  That was my one preplanned restaurant outing for the month of January.  Well, my awesome friend treated me to lunch so I may use my one preplanned activity on a friend's 30th birthday happy hour next week. =)  I did have a ChickFilA salad for lunch once as well, but I used a free coupon (seriously, is there anything better than a ChickFilA chargrilled chicken salad with honey mustard- that is my heaven). 
 
This is a huge deal for us because we usually went out to eat at least 2x every weekend. We didn't usually do anything fancy, but we would order Chinese for dinner and then do Chipotle for lunch (or something like that).  The menu planning really helps to curb this.

My hubby and I are always dining out too, it's our favorite kind of date! We had to cut back because of tight funds and it's been killing us. Props to you for being so diligent with your goals! I have completely failed at mine.

Good work!!! We really need to work on the eating out too! We eat out several times a week... And because I live 45 minutes from home, I eat out everyday for lunch... I think some grocery shopping and lunch packing is in order!

Great job!! I'm so impressed. I've done really well with some of my goals and have yet to start the others. But hey, Rome wasn't built in a day. Any progress is good progress, right? Y'all have done awesome though!
