Speed Cameras

Speed cameras are the devil.  Maryland has recently decided to get all speed camera happy and I swear to god.. we get a ticket in the mail like every month.
My most favorite (recent) tickets...
1. Going 30 in a 25 MPH school zone at 6:30 PM on a Saturday night.  Seriously, are you freakin' kidding me?!?!?
a). There is no school on Saturdays
b). You are really going to charge me forty dollars for going 30 MPH?
2.  Getting a 75 dollar ticket for running a red light that I DIDN'T run.  It just looks like I ran it because I was driving during a torrential downpour/monsoon last Thursday and the cars in front of me stopped suddenly and an inch of my tail end remained in the intersection.  Really!?!?!? That's my fault?   Mother nature should have to pay that bill..
The worst part-- you can't even argue with the traffic gods anymore.  They won't let you off the hook for anything (inspired by mother nature or not).
Basically, I need to start driving like a grandma- go 25 MPH at all times- to avoid paying Maryland like 233432 dollars per year.   Personally, I THINK that grandmas cause more accidents, but what the F ever.

That is absolutely ridiculous! I hope CT never installs speed cameras

I HAAAAATE those flashy things!! It was on the news the other day that NYC alone raked in 52million from them.

I think you can argue them down though. I don't understand them for exactly the reasons you mention. What if you have the green but you're safely waiting in the intersection to make a turn & then the light changes? That's what you're SUPPOSED to do - it's in the freakin' DMV manual!

I have had those SAME speed camera pains -- especially the school zone ones on SATURDAYS. It's the worst and really unfair.

GMA did a story a few weeks ago about how they were getting rid of the cameras in California because even if they issued a ticket, they had no idea WHO was driving the car. So, these people weren't required to pay the tickets, and they weren't getting any of their money to cover the cost of the cameras. Are you sure you have to pay the tickets?

OMG I hate those gd speed cameras!!! My only (two) speeding tickets were from red light cameras in the District. One was in a speed trap and I was going 20 over - so, totally legit. The other? I was going THREE mph over the speed limit. PISSED. After getting the second ticket, I drove like 2 mph UNDER the speed limit everywhere. Always. Once we moved to Indiana, I gradually started speeding again and now I'm back to my old tricks. :)

WTF. That is the craziest thing I've ever heard! Things like that make me glad that I live in this little town where people are up in arms about signs telling you that there is an intersection ahead and the streets that intersect. Seriously, there's been something in the paper about it everyday for the past 3 months.

Good luck with driving like a grandma!
